The development of, and risk factors for, trauma-related behaviors to include anxiety, depression, and self-harm, often come from an intergenerational context. The exogenous factors of being raised in an environment of trauma can reinforce fight/flight responses as every day. The impact can be upon the contributions to behavior, symptoms, and the interventions used to assist in stabilizing the individual. Mental health and substance use contributions also vary by gender as do issues of vocational, socio-economic, and relational dynamics.
