This training will review the etiology and symptoms of self-harmful and suicidal impulses and their impact on the client's thinking, emotions, and behaviors. Issues such as societal pressures, the clinical prevalence of depressive disorders and substance use, cultural, religious, age, and gender data, and lack of equal access to resources will be reviewed. “Special Population” issues, such as serving in the military, and their impact will be reviewed related to prevalence rates, methods, and intervention strategies will also be discussed.
